Ok- I left you when Dad decided he had met "the one" (Rose).
The problem was that Mum's parents (Vic and Chrissie) were pretty set on their 8 kids marrying good Greek boys and girls, so Bappou (Granddad) chased all non Greek suitors away.
Actually, they were the only Greek family for a 100 km radius, so social life was pretty dead if you played by the rules! So- Mum used to sneak out to meet her "beaus" at dances, and when anyone ever asked her out she would arrange to meet them there so she wouldn't be stopped from going.
Naughty naughty....

Well- Dad wouldn't hear of that. He asked her out, and insisted on picking her up from the house.
Mum was so nervous as she was sure Bappou would get the shotgun out and chase him off. Instead, he said Dad could take her out!
Mum was shocked silly.
But imagine the level of shock that occurred when Grandma Vic got down on her hands and knees with a bottle of olive oil and oiled his squeaking shoes so that they wouldn't squeak anymore- apparently in Greek speak that means they are stolen....

And- they were actually allowed to date.
So sweet really....... (sorry for the teenagerism, but it was!)
What a handsome couple!
