Second child....

Meet Gavan, born 1959 on a Sunday (which Mum always found important for some reason- something like Monday's child is fair of face.... blah bah).

Here's the card the nurses put on his crib in hospital, and the birth notice in the West Australian paper...

Incidentally, babies were kept away from the mothers in hospital and only brought to them for feeding.  She had to be in bed in hospital for 2 weeks, and not allowed to get out of bed for the duration.  When she got home she was so weak from lack of activity, and scared like hell of this baby that was only presented to her when it was crying.

Anyway- home she went.  And the requisite proud parent photos ensued.... in front of a rickety "shed" in the backyard.

In this shot, Mum looks about 16 but she was 27 at the time.  Gavan is bored.

Dad looks his age though- also 27....  Gavan so bored he's asleep...

Gavan was a pretty cute baby- you got to hand it to them, the folks had damned handsome babies!

So- here's Gavan having a squeal attack on the front porch...

Here's the beginning of Gavan's lifelong love of cats....

NOT...

Actually, this cat adopted Dad and would lie across the back of his shoulders when Dad sat to read.

You can't help but love this photo...

And he looks so very earnest here...

Here's 1960 child minding at its best!

Bracksie keeping watch on the front porch (probably of Dad off to the right of the shot):

And a father-son shot at the Cascades near Pemberton.

And that brings us up to around the end of 1961.... two kids and a dog in tow....
